Who ever said it would be easy…

When I sat down to think about all the things we have been through these past 2 years I realized that I had forgotten most of it! This is probably down to sleep deprivation!

We lived in bubbles along the way, when we were pregnant it was about getting to the next scan and to be told good news, when that news was bad it was about bringing these babies into the world safe and sound, when they arrived and we were in hospital for weeks, all that mattered was when we were coming home, when we got home with all 3 we finally took a sigh of relief but then the hard work started but so so much easier than the constant beeping of hospital machines and worry, all that worry!

One thing that sticks out from that first year is that first winter they were 6 months (4 months adjusted), I spent most of the days with the babies alone, I was up in the night too. We couldn’t go out as much due to the weather and the fear of them getting sick. They needed a lot more stimulation which meant I needed to find even more energy to provide it! We started weaning which was fun but a new challenge of feeding 3 demanding babies! On a huge plus side, they started to roll, move and found independence. They enjoyed trying new foods, which was so much fun.
We probably made a rookie mistake by continuing dream feeds in the middle of the night, these could have been stopped around the 5/6 month stage but we continued until 8 months when we did decide to stop they didn’t even put up a fuss. At the same time we stopped sleeping in their room, this was a very emotional and stressful step for me, I was scared if something was to happen to them in their sleep or if i didn’t hear them cry, vomit, cough etc and between you and me, I did sneak in and sleep with them when I felt uneasy, until I realized I  disturbed them more with snoring, breathing, my smell etc.

Now we’re at two! How did that happen! I know there maybe a few gaps to plug on my journey so far and i’m on it. Watch this space!

Below are some of the routines we went through, we were strict and are reaping those benefits now. We have very little battle at bedtime and have never had to rock or hold the babies to sleep, they learnt early on to fall asleep on their own in their beds. This does pose some constraints when not at home or functions we attend but those are few and far between.
